✒️ The Kingdom of Prussia, a prominent German state from 1701 to 1918, utilized several flags throughout its history, but the most enduring and recognizable designs consistently featured the Prussian eagle on a white field, often bordered by black stripes. A common state flag, adopted in 1823 and used for much of the 19th century, consisted of black, white, and black horizontal stripes (1:4:1 ratio), with the central white stripe displaying a black eagle, crowned and holding a blue orb and scepter. This eagle often bore the intertwined initials "FR" (for Fridericus Rex, or Frederick King) on its breast. The black and white colors themselves originated from the Teutonic Order, from which Prussia historically evolved, and the eagle symbolized the state's power and regal authority, ultimately influencing the black, white, and red colors of the later German Empire flag.
