✒️ The Hoof and Horn is the national flag adopted by the animals after their successful rebellion in George Orwell's 1945 allegorical novel, Animal Farm. The flag's design consists of a plain green field, which is meant to symbolize the green fields of England. Upon this background is a white, stylized emblem of a hoof and a horn, crossed in a manner that directly parodies the hammer and sickle of the Soviet Union's flag. The hoof and horn are intended to represent the future Republic of the Animals, which the farm's inhabitants dream of establishing after the final overthrow of the human race. As a central symbol within the narrative, the Hoof and Horn flag represents the initial ideals and hopes of the animal rebellion and their political philosophy of Animalism. It is raised daily by the animals and is a source of great pride, encapsulating their principles of solidarity and freedom from human oppression. The flag's history within the novel mirrors the fate of the revolution itself; as the ruling pigs, led by Napoleon, consolidate power and betray the revolution's ideals, the flag's significance is altered. Ultimately, the emblem is removed, leaving only a plain green flag, symbolizing the complete erasure of the original principles of equality and the farm's descent into totalitarianism.
