✒️The Gostelowe Standard No. 10 Pride Flag reimagines one of the most striking regimental colours of the American Revolution in the six-stripe rainbow of the Pride movement. The original Gostelowe Standard No. 10 was one of thirteen artillery standards commissioned by the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, recorded by Philadelphia artist John Gostelowe in the late 18th century. Its central device — an armoured arm emerging from a cloud, brandishing a sword, enclosed in a blue ribbon banner bearing the motto "Resistance to Tyrants is Obedience to God" — is among the most powerful heraldic statements of the founding era, drawing on a phrase attributed to both John Locke and Benjamin Franklin.
The canton carries thirteen six-pointed stars arranged in the pattern of the original standard, representing the thirteen original colonies. Here they fly above a field of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet — the Pride rainbow designed by Gilbert Baker in 1978 — creating a design that speaks to both American revolutionary heritage and the ongoing struggle for civil liberty.
