The Franklin–Adams Flag is a historical reconstruction inspired by descriptions attributed to Benjamin Franklin and John Adams during diplomatic exchanges with the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies in the late 18th century. According to contemporary accounts, the two envoys described the emerging flag of the United States as featuring alternating red, white, and blue horizontal stripes, accompanied by a blue canton bearing a constellation of white stars. This variant interprets that description literally, incorporating tricolor striping across the full field rather than limiting blue to the canton alone, resulting in a more evenly distributed palette.

The design is often discussed in vexillological circles as a speculative or “transitional” representation of early American identity, reflecting how the United States may have been perceived abroad before standardization of the Stars and Stripes. While not an official flag, the Franklin–Adams interpretation highlights the fluidity of early American symbolism and the role of diplomatic communication in shaping foreign understanding of national emblems.
