Chief (Upper Portion): On a field Or, a lion passant (or potentially rampant) Sable (black), representing the heraldic lion of the Duchy of Jülich.

The current flag of Aachen is a horizontal bicolour of gold (yellow) and blue, featuring the complete coat of arms of the city at its centre.
