✒️ The "Don't Give Up the Ship" flag is a historic naval banner made famous by Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry during the War of 1812. Featuring a dark blue field with the white, capitalized phrase "DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP," the flag was flown aboard Perry’s flagship, the USS Lawrence, during the Battle of Lake Erie on September 10, 1813. The phrase was a tribute to the dying command of Captain James Lawrence, a fellow naval officer who uttered the words after being mortally wounded in battle. The flag has since become an enduring symbol of perseverance, courage, and naval heritage in the United States Navy.

A traditional outdoors flag is 3x5ft, but we also offer 2x3ft, 1.2x2ft, all the way down to small desk flags and hand-waving flags. If you need a specific size, you can also order the Bespoke Size And/Or Cut option.

What are flag types?
There are several different types of custom flag models: Heavy double-sided outdoor flags, or lighter single-sided indoor decoration flags. Each model has its own advantages and disadvantages. For heavy wind outdoors use, we recommend the Double-Sided Three Layer model; for light wind, we recommend Double-Sided Single Layer.

What is this?
What do “Hoist” and “Grommets” mean?
“Hoist” and “grommets” describe how your flag attaches to a pole or display system. At Flagmaker & Print, we offer several attachment options to suit different uses:
• Hoist-side grommets – the traditional option, compatible with all standard flagpoles and hoisting systems
• Four-corner grommets – ideal for indoor displays or when stretching a flag across a wall or surface
• Pole sleeves – perfect for carrying, marches, and parades
