✒️ During the Reconquista era (circa 8th to 15th centuries), the flags and banners of the Christian kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula varied widely but commonly featured heraldic symbols representing royal dynasties and territorial claims. Prominent kingdoms such as Castile, León, Aragon, Navarre, and Portugal each bore distinct emblems: Castile displayed a golden castle on a red field, León featured a purple lion on white, Aragon used alternating red and gold stripes, and Navarre showed linked golden chains on red. These banners were used in battles and ceremonies to symbolize authority, identity, and the Christian effort to reclaim territory from Muslim rule. The Reconquista culminated in 1492 with the fall of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, marking the unification of Spain under the Catholic Monarchs.
