A digitalle restored version of the '1st colored regiment infantry flag'. This was a regimental standard associated with the 1st Colored Infantry Regiment, rendered in a traditional American military heraldic style. Set against a deep blue field, the design features a central bald eagle with outstretched wings clutching a United States shield, symbolizing federal authority and unity. Above the eagle is a ribbon bearing the national motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” while a semicircle of gold stars surrounds the inscription “PRAIRIE-DE-ANNE,” referencing the regiment’s involvement in the Battle of Prairie D’Anne during the American Civil War. Encircling the upper field are additional place names—“ISLAND MOUND,” “CABIN CREEK,” “HONEY SPRINGS,” “SHERWOOD,” “JENKINS FERRY,” “CAMDEN,” and “POISON SPRINGS”—each denoting key engagements in which the regiment is believed to have participated.
