The 1929 Afghanistan flag with Coat of Arms features a classic vertical triband design, presenting three equal vertical pales of black, red, and green. The black stripe is situated at the hoist, representing the country's past dark eras under foreign influence, followed by a vibrant red central band symbolizing the blood shed for independence, and a bright green pale at the fly, representing prosperity and hope for the future. Centered prominently on the red stripe is the historic national coat of arms of Afghanistan, rendered in stark white. This intricate emblem depicts a stylized mosque with a mihrab (prayer niche) and minbar (pulpit), flanked by two national flags and enclosed within a radiant sunburst or star emblem, with crossed sabers positioned underneath.

Historically, this specific tricolor variant was briefly adopted during the highly turbulent political transitions of 1929. Following the abdication of the modernizing King Amanullah Khan and the short-lived rebellion led by Habibullah Kalakani, King Mohammed Nadir Shah ascended the throne later that year. Nadir Shah restored the traditional black, red, and green vertical tricolor originally introduced by Amanullah in 1928, but reinstated the older, more complex royal coat of arms featuring the radiant sunburst motif. This configuration served as the definitive national banner of the Kingdom of Afghanistan until a slightly modified emblem was introduced in 1930, marking a critical transition toward decades of relative stability under the Musahiban dynasty.
