✒️ The Flag of Spain (1945–1977) was the national flag of Spain during the later years of Francisco Franco's rule. It featured three horizontal stripes: a red stripe at the top and bottom, with a wider yellow stripe in the center. Positioned toward the hoist side of the yellow stripe was the national coat of arms, which included the Pillars of Hercules, the traditional Spanish shield, and the eagle of Saint John, a symbol associated with Francoist Spain. This flag was adopted on August 11, 1945, replacing earlier versions used during the Spanish Civil War and the early Francoist period. The design emphasized Spain's continuity with its historical heraldry while incorporating fascist and nationalist elements. The eagle, taken from the Catholic Monarchs’ coat of arms, symbolized unity and strength under Franco’s regime. In 1977, two years after Franco’s death, the flag was modified to remove the eagle, aligning with Spain’s transition to democracy. The revised version retained the red and yellow color scheme but introduced a simpler coat of arms, paving the way for the modern Spanish flag adopted in 1981.
