✒️ The Sons of Liberty Flag, also known as the "Rebellious Stripes," is a flag associated with the Sons of Liberty, a pre-Revolutionary War American patriot group. The flag's design is believed to be one of the earliest to represent the unified colonies, and it likely influenced the development of the American flag. There are two main variations of the Sons of Liberty Flag. The most well-known features nine alternating red and white vertical stripes, possibly symbolizing the nine colonies represented at the 1765 Stamp Act Congress. This version is credited with being the "first stripes" flag associated with American rebellion against British rule. Another version features thirteen stripes, reflecting the full thirteen colonies. The exact order of creation and use of these variations is debated by historians. The Sons of Liberty Flag was flown prominently at various protests and demonstrations throughout the colonies. Notably, it is believed to have been raised above the famous Boston Liberty Tree, a meeting place for Sons of Liberty members. While the flag itself predates the official American flag, its use of stripes in a design representing colonial unity is considered a significant precursor to the Stars and Stripes.
